Making Tight Shoes Fit

I made a shopping mistake yesterday and bought myself a pair of really cute ballet flats that seemed to fit fine when I tried it on at the store, but feels so much tighter now when I tried it at home. I think I these shoes a size too small and I don’t have anymore time to go back to the store to exchange it because the store is really too far from where I live. So, I’m gonna have to make do with what I have and live with this. Fortunately, a friend of mine has suggested some tips to make tighter shoes fit better.

This tip should also work if your body has undergone a few changes, such as pregnancy, which automatically makes feet slightly a bit larger.

1. Break in your shoes. Get them worn out a bit well days before you have to actually wear them. Wear the shoes for at least two days so that the materials stretch and you can also find your comfort and bearing with it.
2. Invest in a shoe stretcher. This can be found at handyman stores or shoe stores. It takes patience to be able to handle a shoe stretcher as the results does not happen for days. Also, be careful when you use this stretcher so that you don’t loosen the shoes too much and break it.

3. Get a shoe stretch spray. This is also available at hardware stores. The spray helps make the material more supple and thus, stretches.
4. Use a blow drier for your shoes. They say that when the shoes is heated up, it can be easily stretched so before you wear them, blow dry them first.

Trend Alert: Colored Shoes For Men

Fashion gurus have decided the men need some work when it comes to colors. Black, brown, navy and gray are so basic and boring, they are no longer in. Recent runway spectacles showcasing collections for Spring and Summer 2010, have men wearing suits in subtle pink, purple, turquoise, green and other bright shades. And it seems that this trend is unstoppable because here now comes a selection of colored men shoes…also seen at recent fashion runways.

So, will your man be open enough to the idea of wearing colored shoes? Take a look at these, for inspiration:

Gucci Red Suede Double Tassel Moccasins
I like it good enough to wear for myself! But this is a man’s shoes. I’ve yet to see a man wearing red shoes, other than sneakers or rubber shoes. Will this be something your boyfriend would want to wear?

- Supple suede upper
- Rounded moc toe
- Beaded lacing along opening
- Beaded double tassels at vamp
- Leather lining
- Split rubber sole

Tod’s Mauve Suede Moc Toe Driving Loafers
I’m not sure a man can get away with wearing red shoes much less this pink one (alright, it’s mauve!). But we will never know…it can be adorable on a man’s feet. Just like the red shoes, I think I’d rather like this for myself though. Is your man confident enough to wear this? This style also comes in brown and bluish gray, if your guy wants to remain traditional.

- Color: Mauve
- Supple suede upper
- Square moc toe
- Tie detail at vamp
- Overlay with signature rubber dotting along back heel
- Leather lining

So what do you think? Colored shoes yay or nay?

Shoe Art by Tetsuya Uenobe

Japanese shoe designer Tetsuya Uenobe describes these as “wearable art”. It’s his call to how fashion is perceived today. A lot of very hip fashionistas, celebrities and models actually make style so much more fun by wearing really unique and distinctive fashion that it’s almost an art piece (see: Lady Gaga). That’s basically the idea of this shoe line. And if it’s really anything —- it’s most definitely distinctive.

These shoes are handmade, so details are properly laid out well. I find it amusing that Tetsuya Uenobe took basically anything and decided this would work with shoes. It’s an ingenious idea at work. The shoes all look fun and quirky, don’t they? And of course, as the designer swears by it, these shoes are completely wearable. This London-educated shoe designer has really something here.

Starting out as a fashion merchandiser, Uenobe became oriented with colors and designs. He was also exposed to a lot of craftsmen and this is basically where he started to learn his way into the shoe business.

He takes inspirations from the fact that his shoe art isn’t limited and I like that this is so. According to him, commercially designed shoes may frustrate him at times.

Uenobe’s creations has been on display at several exhibits in Japan. He is quite well-known among the Japanese, who I must say, have some of the quirkiest fashion sense, these shoes definitely found its market.

His shoe collection is also found at the Virtual Shoe Museum online, where some of the most dazzling creations are presented.

Vogue Says Low Heels Are In

So move over stilettos, wedgest and platform shoes and make way for low-heeled shoes this upcoming season. According to Vogue Magazine, one of Spring 2010’s most trendiest wear has got to be shoes that shouldn’t kill your feet — shoes that only come up to one to two inches.

Here are some pretty samples:

Contrast stitching and contrasting leather overlays give the shoe further distinction, and the stacked wedge heel features a contrast-stitched leather strap accent. The heel is cushioned by latex foam for added comfort while walking and with extended wear. The versatile charms of this pump make it a perfect choice for stylish work wear as well as after hours.

Trend Alert: Sandals With Socks

Screen shot 2010-01-21 at 11.01.32 AM

The fashion runway is reviving an old style that was so popular back in the early 90’s. Remember how people used to wear socks with their sandals? Yes, that style is back and back in a more sophisticated way as the sandals now come in heels (as opposed to last decades flat and laidback Birkenstocks), and the socks come in really trendy and fashionable prints and it’s also textured.

The choice are now varied. If you’re the type who wants to experiment with your look, you can mix and match different sandals with those pretty, textured socks. The socks also help to make the sandals more comfortable. Wear this style with short skirts for a more stylish look, but be very careful not to look as though you dressed up in your grandmother’s clothes.

The shoes and socks look better when they come in similar hues and color, to give symmetry and to let your legs look longer. But you can wear bold colors together, like a deep blue pair of socks with a dark blue sandals. You can replace socks with tights, when the weather is colder.

Platform and chunky sandals worked best for this style. It’s like a salute to the old classics and a great transitional look.

Here are some of my recommended textured tights and socks for this look:
B.ella Cotton Crochet Tights- Black
Gipsy Double Rib Opaque Tights
HueMedallion Tight – Espresso

And these would look great with these sandals:

Steve Madden Screwed!

Steve Madden’s knock-offs are getting quite popular with those that like to wear fashionable items but cannot really afford the high-priced originals. Steve Madden is a favorite among those who love the “look for less”. However, the designer isn’t so well-loved by those whose ideas were copied from.

Balenciaga is suing the designer for copying their lego-heeled shoe collection, which was introduced to the market in 2007.

Screen shot 2009-12-21 at 6.14.17 AM

The suit was filed last Tuesday in New York. On the paper submitted to the courts, it says: “Defendant Steve Madden’s reputation for producing knock-offs of full price luxury designs further corroborates Defendant’s deliberate pattern of willful infringement and unfair competition.”

Early this year, Alexander McQueen also sued the designer for the same offense.

Susan Sarandon’s Barefoot Red Carpet Moment

We don’t know what she was up to. Is she making a fashion statement? A political statement? Or did she just simply forget to wear shoes? Whatever was the reason for this, Susan Sarandon seemed to have made a red carpet fashion first by going barefooted.

While other celebrities make a fashion faux pas by coming to the affairs so overdressed, Susan decides to do with a lot less. What’s more, she seemed to have also forgotten wearing proper support in the chest area.

She wore shoes afterwards though and went to join her cast mates at the premiere of Lovely Bones wearing a very noticeable but hastly blue flats. Susan could have improved this look even without wearing so much. We recommend the following to match what she wore:
