Falling into Fashion

Seasons are changing, temperatures are falling, and your wardrobe probably needs a serious adjustment. Don’t fear Designlookout is here with some great style tips that can get you through any fashion situation. From college to the boardroom, your clothes have an impact. Today I will show you some stylish items for a great price. Falling into fashion, stepping out in style.

Why so Utilitarian?

Utilitarianism Fashion is about getting maximum use of each garment you have in your wardrobe. Who wouldn’t want clothing that can be worn in several different ways or for various occasions? You can save tons of money, which is vital during this recession. The huge items with a utilitarian touch are. Aim for some laced up ankle boots with an almond shaped toe and stiletto heel. One of my favorite online stores, ASOS, has some great lace up shearing boots for under $95. Boots that look fabulous no matter what season or occasion is a plus in my book.

Another great item to looking into is a classic trench coat. A trench coat looks great on everyone.  Whether for work, school or play, a trench can go with anything. You will never hear this coat is out of style. Opt for a trench coat in neautral colors. Black trench coats are also a great addition to any wardrobe. One of my fav retailers for a e great cropped trench coat is Asos.com and Old Navy. Target.com also has some great trench coats in various sizes.

Must Have Utilitarian of 2010 – The white button up shirt. You can wear a white button up shirt for day or night. Whether you are dressing up or down. White button up shirts is a staple and muti outfit item.

What the Fringe?

Fringe is huge for the fall season. I love Sequined Fringe Dress from Haute Hippie. They have a modern touch to 60’s style. I also love Smitten’s black linen-cotton beaded fringe sweater. Fringe sweaters are great for the chilly seasons. Aim for cardigans instead of full sweaters. A great option for those ,like me, who love anything convertible is the Tri Me Convertible Sweater by Laurie B. Fringe vest are also great for the up & coming fall season.

Marc Jacobs Releases Plus Size Line

He would have to be the very first top designer to come out with a plus size line. Announced through his business partner, Robert Duffy, via Twitter the other week, Marc Jacobs is reportedly coming out with a collection for women over size 14 before the year ends.

Mr. Duffy himself considers his size as big or plus size considering he is about 210 lbs and stands at 6′4. He recognizes that there are not enough choices for bigger people in the high fashion market and have asked other Twitter users who follow their brand to come up with a name or phrase to replace the word.

Many designers do not do plus sizes because it is admittedly a challenge to design clothes for bigger women. But with this new development, we’re pretty sure other designers are going to follow suit.

Selfridge Apologizes for Fashion Faux Pas

Selfridges, one of UK’s most esteemed store, has earned the ire of the fashion industry for creating a faux pas. On its store windows recently, it featured an Alexander McQueen dress hanging from a desk lamp. It was as if the dress committed suicide.

People are calling it inappropriate because as you should know the late designer died in February this year after taking his own life and hanging himself in his apartment.

Selfridge has issued a statement regarding the matter.

“Presenting a fashion item from the new Alexander McQueen collection hanging was never intended to be linked to the designer’s untimely death or how he died. Nearly all the new season items from our new window scheme, The Desirables, showcased in both our London and Manchester stores, are hung artistically on their own to present them as even more extraordinary. However, we do acknowledge that, in retrospect, presenting the dress in our Manchester Exchange Square store in this way was a mistake, and would like to apologise if this particular window has upset anyone. The dress has been removed and replaced by another designer’s garment.”

First Look: Sarah Burton’s Cruise 2011 Collection

The above designs are two of Sarah Burton’s Cruise 2011 Collection. It should be recalled that the designer has now assumed the role of head designer in the Alexander McQueen empire. The latter died unexpectedly last January, leaving the brand name and its house with an uncertain future.

Judging by these designs, it seems the brand is going back with the right footing. The collections show a lot of promise and some pieces are actually reminiscent of McQueen’s vision. I’m actually very impressed. Sarah Burton was said to be inspired by Hans Bellmer dolls and samurai warriors when she created these stunning pieces.

She says her collection serves to “juxtapose the pale and the delicate with the bold and armorial. It’s about a highly structured torso that gives way to a more fluid silhouette or drop waists that lead to a finned trouser or skirt.”

Bravo!
