Dressing Room Etiquette

Trying on clothes at the store? Do mind these dressing room tips when you do:

a) Be careful with the merchandise. Don’t toss it around anywhere, especially if you find that the clothes don’t really fit you well and you decide not to get it. Put it back in the orderly manner you got it. If it comes with a hanger, then by all means, hang the clothes back on it.

b) Make sure that you aren’t eating any food when you try something on. You might stain the blouse you got and it will be worse if you don’t even have the intention of buying this. It’s the same thing for lipstick, too. Be careful about wearing this and make sure that you don’t leave any lip mark. White items are a killer.

c) Don’t leave your trash inside the dressing room. There are trash cans for that. Always ensure cleanliness and respect the establishment. The sales team tend to remember customers like you and will surely dread servicing you the next time you come back.

Long Live Alexander McQueen

alexander-mcqueen

Despite his untimely death early last week, Gucci has just announced that it will still proceed with the Alexander McQueen label. Clothes, accessories and other fashionable collections will still be pro. uced bearing the late designer’s name and that the well-known luxury brand will still continue to finance this. So far, since the company has acquired the label, profits have risen to good numbers and that expansions were carried out by opening stores in London, New York and Los Angeles. The label also came up with a collection in collaboration with Target, for its more affordable line.

However, there are still no details as to how Gucci will proceed to sustain the Alexander McQueen label. Their latest line, geared for the fall season, will be shown to a select few on March 9th and 10th.

It has been reported that Alexander McQueen has had most of his 2010 Fall collection already done before he died. We may see this collection in the runway pretty soon, perhaps to pay a tribute to the very talented designer.

Christian Louboutin for Barbie

As a child, I used to play with a set of Barbie Dolls that came with dresses my very own grandmother used to make. And her shoes were all bought for less than a dollar each.

Today, though, kids can play Barbie Dolls donning their own designer wardrobe as Barbie makers team up with fashion designer Christian Louboutin to launch a line of Barbie collectible wardrobe.

The first line, which can be purchased at Net-A-Porter, was released before Christmas and it was no surprise doll and outfit set was sold out within the day it was released. The set, with had Barbie wearing a black tight cat burglar-inspired outfit included four red-soled Louboutin shoes, including boots, a show box and bag. The set was sold for $150.

This week, the second line of Barbie & Louboutin has been announced and will be sold until March:

This set is more safari inspired and carries the famous knee-high fringed pink boots from the brand. I actually recognize this shoes as celebrities have been seen wearing it.

If you have a budding fashionista who loves Barbie Dolls, or you collect one for yourself, this would be a great addition.

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson’s eco-friendly line is now up on sale at the People Tree. The fashion site have actually commissioned the actress to work on some designs along with other fashion designers, especially when People Tree found out she was very impressed by their ethical stance.

Says Emma of her decision to have some of her designs commissioned on the site: “Rather than give cash to charities you can help people in poorer countries by buying clothes they make.”

Her line includes very wearable and comfortable styles of T-shirts, vests, cotton dresses and scarves. The style is basically very British, and would appeal to its target market really well. The clothes are all made of 100% sustainable products.

Will you let your man wear this summer suit?

Screen shot 2010-02-05 at 9.13.22 AM

Seen at a recent men’s Spring 2010 fashion show…

These are traditional business suits with a slight, but very obvious, variation. The suits come in bright summer colors like watermelon, cherry. The suits come in various cuts and styles. Some have cropped pants with bunched up sleeves. Some are inspired by African couture. They’re very trendy and most fashionable. But the question is — would you think it’s too gay to have your significant others wear it? They come from various men’s wear designer — Gucci, Calvin Klein, Paul Smith, Jean Paul Gaultier and more. They actually look good in paper and in concept.

Personally though, the shades are really lovely. The icy effect is different. But it attracts too much attention and only model-looking men could actually look good in these.

Style Watch: Zac Posen for Target

I really like the idea of high end designers making some of their collections more affordable to the masses. I mean, those who aren’t insanely rich can wear something with style, too right? Many designers have already branched into making their designs so accessible, by coming up with pieces sold exclusively for retail stores like Target or K-Mart. And the next designer to join the bandwagon is Zac Posen, whose collection will be unveiled soon at Target.

The Lookbook has first look on what the collection would be and I am so impressed by the choices of colors and style. It’s very young, fresh and pretty!

A very talented designer, Zac Posen has been making clothes for celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Beyonce and Rihanna. Fashion blogs online are in fact looking forward to this Target collaboration unveiling…but we won’t actually get to see it until April 25.

Trend Alert: Lingerie Look

The lingerie look brings out women’s more softer and feminine side. The laces, ruffles and frills provide a nice break from the edgy stye of boots and leather we’ve been seeing of late. Yes, for this coming spring season…a lingerie dress, that may awfully look like your sexy undies, will be the dress of choice for the season.

Flouncy shorts, lacey dresses that look like camisoles, chemises in pretty pastel colors — these largely form what the next couple of month’s fashion staple would be. And it would be very liberating. Make no mistake though, you cannot wear actual lingerie to get the lingerie look. There really are lingerie inspired dresses and designs you can get from designers like Dolce & Gabbana, for example.

Some celebrities have already been spotted wearing lingerie inspired dresses. Would you wear one?

Horrific Styles: Is It Still Fashion?

Have you noticed how much fashion has evolved over the years? Because everyone is trying to be original and edgy, some rules of fashion have been broken. Fashion Do’s and Don’ts used to be very clear cut.  But these days? There’s already a fine line between what is acceptable and downright horrible.

Take for instance, this tube socks with sandals. A standard fashion rule would say — you can never wear socks with sandals. But this style even takes it up a notch by designing this as this very trendy Gladiator inspired footwear. The sandals keep the feet warm, airy as it covers and protects it from the harsh conditions at the same time. I don’t know about you but this just doesn’t really work.

Another questionable fashion piece are embellished leggings and stockings. Sure, some of it look really nice and I get the style very well, if worn the right way. But there are some designs that just really go overboard, I’m not even sure what one can do to wear it well. Take a look at this fringey knew socks. Do you even get what this style is all about?

Screen shot 2010-01-27 at 4.06.35 PM

Lastly, please don’t ever wear this around town for the summer. I know the style looks like the clothes are so relaxing to wear and carry. It looks very comfortable. But it is a complete fashion mistake, it’s so laughable.

Screen shot 2010-01-27 at 4.09.15 PM

I’ve never cared much about harem pants, really. But this style, which is part of the Victoria’s Secret catalogue, must never find its way into your closets. Unless you are MC Hammer.

The other day, the company has announced it is expanding its clothing line to include swimwear. Now, this should be great news for fans of the brand as you can now enjoy wearing bathing suits that will accentuate your body’s best features, thanks to Spanx.

Not only that, the swimwear collection carries some really cute designs, too.

The styles are very contemporary, young-looking with just the right color and shade. I especially like the turquoise and brown combination.

You can check out their designs at the Spanx’s Website.
