Oscar Red Carpet Fashion

If Hollywood was High School, the Oscars was considered the Prom. And at the prom last night, we saw some of the most spectacular dresses these beautiful and dashing actresses and actors wore as they sashayed down the red carpet. Some of the night’s best-dressed include the following:

Carey Mulligan is actually a red carpet darling and once again, at the Oscar’s red carpet this pixie looking actress didn’t disappoint. Wearing an Erdem dress, one of the most original and hottest up and coming fashion designers, it perfectly matched her very quirky style.

I can sometimes never agree with what Maggie Gyllenhaal wears because she is an individual when it comes to style, but she effortlessly looks gorgeous in this Dries Van Noten print dress. She can carry this well, when not everyone will be able to.

This year’s Prom Queen is perhaps Sandra Bullock, who is making quite a splash for her movies, The Blind Side and The Proposal, in all awards shows left and right (including the Razzie’s which awards the worsts of Hollywood). The actress looks absolutely stunning in this pale gold gown styled with vintage fabric. It was designed by Marchesa. The lipstick though, not so much.

Vera Farmiga, another nominee for Up In The Air, looks absolutely fantastic in this ruffled pink dress. It may be too overpowering to be worn by someone else but she just made it work by especially wearing minimal jewelry.

Sigourney Weaver’s Grecian inspired dress may look plain if not for the deep red shade and black contrast. Then it look absolutely gorgeous. She dressed right for her age and figure.

Who among the stars were your best dressed favorites?

Alice in Wonderland Fashion

We zero in on the three stars of what we predict would be another Tim Burton masterpiece for their fashionable and stylish red carpet outfit.

At the premiere of Alice in Wonderland the other day at the Odeon Leicester Square, Anne Hathaway. Helena Bonham Carter and Mia Wasikowa were really pretty misses in fantasy inspired dresses.

Anne donned a Vivienne Westwood couture and paired it with fabulous Cadadei platforms. Anne’s dress is high fashion couture but simple and elegant. Helena, meanwhile, wore a quirky George Chakras dress that really suits her. I like the heart earrings Helena was wearing, which was a subtle salute to the character she played in the movie. And Mia was in a floral Valentino, which seems to define sassy and stylish at the same time.

Pop Queen Madonna To Come Up With Fashion Line?

madonna-picture-1

Pop superstar and multi-performer awardee, Madonna, is reportedly going to start her own apparel line and it will be sold exclusively at Macy’s. Her merchandise will include contemporary clothes for women, as well as accessories, shoes and the most awaited of all, the intimate line.

Madonna is considering whether to call her line Material Girl or Truth Or Dare, or use both. Material Girl would be for the clothes and accessories, while Truth Or Dare will carry the lingerie collection. These names are so very close and important to the singer/performer. Material Girl was her most popular song, while Truth or Dare was the title of her first movie.

Although Madonna’s people and Macy’s haven’t made a comment yet, sources say that Iconix Brand Group has been in talks with the the celebrity for its licensing. Iconix has worked with other stars before like Britney Spears, who has her own line of apparels called Candie, which is found at Kohl’s.

I think that this new venture for Madonna is something that has been waiting to happen. I am actually wondering why it took them awhile to come up with it, although she did collaborate with H & M some three years ago for a woman’s collection called M by Madonna.

Not only is Madonna a very famous star that everyone in the world recognizes, she is also a fashionista and an icon in that sense. A brand by her would almost instantly be something sellable/

Madonna is currently also a product endorser of Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vuitton, Gap and Versace.

Harry Potter actress Emma Watson’s eco-friendly line is now up on sale at the People Tree. The fashion site have actually commissioned the actress to work on some designs along with other fashion designers, especially when People Tree found out she was very impressed by their ethical stance.

Says Emma of her decision to have some of her designs commissioned on the site: “Rather than give cash to charities you can help people in poorer countries by buying clothes they make.”

Her line includes very wearable and comfortable styles of T-shirts, vests, cotton dresses and scarves. The style is basically very British, and would appeal to its target market really well. The clothes are all made of 100% sustainable products.

Hot or Not: Amanda Seyfried

Screen shot 2010-02-04 at 7.19.25 PM

Young star Amanda Seyfried is in the news lately because she has a movie to promote. The actress is starring in the Nicholas Spark film adaptation of Dear John, a romantic story. The film is highly anticipated by many of Spark’s loyal readers.

In one of the premieres, Seyfried walked the red carpet wearing a two toned halter dress designed by Giorgio Armani. She matches this with beautiful sandals in silver, and designed by Brian Atwood. For accessories, the actress wore Movado jewelry and completed the look with a Judith Leiber clutch bag.

Her dress accents the cleavage. I remember Amanda used to be this promising little actress and now she’s all grown up and mature and this dress brings out her best assets.

I’m not loving the shoes for the dress though. Although it’s nice, it doesn’t go well with it.

What do you think? Hot or not?

Lady Gaga leads the pack with this Giorgio Armani creation that’s done exclusively for her. Of course, she is the only one who can get away with it anyway. The performer also performed on stage wearing a green body suit by the same designer. It’s cut so revealing, her private parts were half exposed.

Rihanna came wearing ruffles that go up to the neck, reminding me of old Victorian style. Its back was almost bear though. The gown is designed by Elie Saab.

Katy Perry was slightly understated, but still remained a looker in this Zac Posen pearl and gold gown.

Givenchy is add a bit of religion to Paris Fashion week. I love the Jesus references and the simplistic color theory. Givenchy men’s line did not disappoint with great tailored pants and coats with be  great addition to the any man’s closet. I do not like the black tight that was present in the collection but I guess that was for dramatic effect. I just can’t see men wear tights. So for all my fashion forward gents out there, the tailor look is in!Love that tee BTW!

Bride of Frankenstein Meets Classic Equestrian was a Hit for Dior Haute Couture

FRANCE FASHION

I am loving the Dior Haute collection by John Galliano. It is fresh with a touch of horror. I love the vest and the fabulous equestrian boots. I thought that the Victorian style can translate into some fab piece in your closet. I would look at the Dior equestrian boots, chunky amber necklaces, and red lipstick! Got to love Dior! I never saw such a wearable Couture collection as separates.

Jean Paul Gaultier has some Fight in Him

Blood, gloves, and scars is not something you would typically describe a Gaultier collection but you will now. I love this collection. The leather jackets in this collection are boss! I have a feeling that hoodies will be integrated into the  every man’s wardrobe from casual to the night life!  I am also seeing that form fitted pants are in. Neutral colors are a big hit for men, no pastels in this collection. I also love the futuristic touches in the collection.  This collection is totally wearable and chic. Motorcycle jackets are always a item to have. Side Note Check out Jean Paul’s leather carry on bag in this collection, very nice and functional!

Hot or Not: Lea Michele

Screen shot 2010-01-25 at 1.56.33 PM

Lea Michele is clearly going to be the darling of the runway in several years to come. She has been exhibiting so much style and pizzazz in her choice of wardrobe, this last of which, we see her in this very green and very ravishing Maladrino gown. The dress showed off her lovely skin tone and with her hair cascading down so loosely at the back, she looks very sophisticated. Lea Michele is Italian American with Spanish-Sephardic Jewish ancestry.

This is a far cry from her TV image, where Lea Michelle plays an over-eager teenager who dresses up like somebody’s grandmother.

I’ve been noticing her a lot on the red carpet and I must say, this is not the first time she came out looking so good. She somehow manages to know how to carry herself, when not in her Glee character, Rachel.

Do you like Lea Michele’s green dress?

The Most Stylish Men of 2010

Screen shot 2010-01-21 at 11.29.23 AM

As we all already know, fashion is not just exclusive to women. We do have some really stylish fashionable men around especially since, in this new millennium, much of the emphasis to personal grooming has been the trend with men. They are now more self-aware with how they can dress up and look much better.

The men’s magazine, GQ has come up with their yearly list of fashionable icons and they have named Johnny Depp as this year’s most fashionable. We couldn’t agree more. Johnny Depp has quite an eclectic style. Some days he looks very polished; other days he dons a whimsical and interesting style; and still, there are other days when he looks as if he just rolled out of bed. In each and every instance though, Johnny Depp always manages to be a dressy, dapper gentleman.

The other men on GQ’s list include:

  • Robert Pattinson, whose hair is considered his most prominent appeal and his style of dressing is considered “dressing up like he doesn’t give a damn”.
  • Russel Brand, whose style has been branded “outrageous”
  • Ryan Gossling, whose casual elegance style makes him this list most underdressed, it actually works for him.

Check out GQ’s list here.
