It used to be that a look like this says something about how one groom’s her hair. Uneven highlights tend to look unkept and dirty. There’s not a name for it and it isn’t a fashion statement.

But trendsetters have found something interesting with this style to consider it cool. It’s called the Ombre, which basically looks like you are growing out your hair and you have roots that need serious hot oil treatment.

Drew Barrymore stepped out on the red carpet donning this haircut, which fashion magazines have lauded as really cute and trendy. This has actually been styled. Drew isn’t growing out her highlights. Byron Williams of Byron & Tracey salon is behind Drew’s boho inspired long locks.

In an interview with Stylecaster, the stylists lets out a secret to Drew’s hair:

“She also has amazing hair to begin with, and I’m so thankful for that! Her natural waves have a luscious weight to them, which make any style hold nicely. I suggest applying a little bit of Moroccan cream and illuminating spray to damp hair, and then let the hair dry naturally as it would, then I diffuse it.”

Would you want to wear an ombre hairstyle?

While it seems to give highlights a new twist and make someone look a lot younger, sometimes, it cannot work. Unless you trust your stylist and someone knows how to work an ombre really well, it could turn into a disaster. The ombre is high maintenance so a woman has to have the patience….and the cashflow, to keep this style current and kept well.
