New York is still World’s Fashion Capital

New York City still remains the fashion capital of the world according to this ranking by the Global Language Monitor. The surveying company also listed down the rest of the Top 20, with cities from Asia and Australia making it to the list.
The cities were ranked according to the frequency in which these were named and mentioned throughout the internet and the blogsphere.
New York was overtaken by Milan until about last year, in spite of being on the top for the previous five years. The dip in ranking was due to the US economy, but since they are now deemed on the way to recovery, the top spot is back for New York.
Says Bekka Payack, the fashion correspondent for Global Language Monitor, “As the global fashion industry adjusted to the new economic reality, New York rebounded to the No. 1 spot it has now held for six of the last seven years. This year’s list of the top fashion capitals, shows the global fashion industry remaining in flux, with the relative decline of some of the previously leading players and formerly regional players emerging as significant new influences.”

11. Melbourne
12. Shanghai

14. Tokyo

16. Las Vegas
17. Amsterdam (a list first timer)
18. Berlin
19. Rio de Janeiro
20. Moscow
The cities of Hongkong, Madrid and Melbourne were considered the biggest movers while India and other cities in South America are also climbing the list, showcasing a rich diversified world of fashion.
