Urban Outfitters’ Controversial Statement Shirts

Some people are quite angry at some of the things found at the Urban Outfitter’s shopping site.

For starters, they have been coming up with simple statement shirts with messages that aren’t so simple, it is outraging some sectors of society.

A shirt that declares to “EAT LESS” probably sends out the wrong message for women, when what should be encouraged is “eating right”.

They also have a shirt that speaks of fathers and their daughter’s virginity, which is actually creepy and downright crosses the line, as far as statement shirts as concerned.

But a stronger outrage came from the fact that the color sizes of these shirts are called Obama/Black:

To the company’s credit, they did come out with a statement:

“Many customers have brought to our attention one of the color names listed for our BDG Burnout Henley, and rightfully so. We screwed up, and are sincerely sorry. The burnout pattern on this shirt is comprised of two colors – one is an internally developed color we called “Obama Blue” and the other is “Black”. Unfortunately our website database truncated this combination to read “Obama/Black.”

So what do you think? Are you offended by these shirts?
