Nautical Style is a huge trend for the summer ‘10. Who would have that 19th century French fishermen nautical apparel became to be a fashion statement for the 21st century. One of my favorite items for this summer trend are striped Nautical Shirts, dresses, and wedges. They look great at fabulous beach parties and for everyday wear. Striped shirts can be found in every retail store this summer. One of my favorite nautical style top is Striped Shark Bite Dolman Tee from Express.com. This top is a great example of a modern twist on nautical style.
Nautical striped shirts look great on everyone but you have to know what stripes will look great on you. For all my plus size fashionistas, opt for thin horizontal stripes. Horizontal stripes are not great for plus size women. Thick horizontal stripes can make a full figure woman look wide. If you have an hourglass or pear shape than I would suggest wearing thin horizontal stripes. Thick stripes will add width to your figure. These shirts would be great for those who lack curves. Petite women should opt for nautical inspired tank tees. Tank tops look wonderful on petite figures.
My Nautical Picks
- Striped Shark Bite Dolman Tee from Express.com
- HARBOUR Striped Wedge from ASOS.com
- Nautical Jersey Dress by Annie Greenabelle from TopShop.com
- Julius Nautical Tote Women’s Bags (Handbags/Totes) By Paul Frank from Karmaloop.com
Flower Power
Everywhere I turn I see someone in a floral. Floral is a great and easy way to add color to any wardrobe. Floral is huge right now because many designers are using classic 80’s fashion. This is why floral is huge item this season! Floral bottoms are the rage this year. Tiered Skirts, mini dresses and Rompers are key for a perfect summer collection. I personally enjoy small floral prints on dresses and skirts.
Stay away from floral button up tops. These tops are not the business this year instead look for floral tunics. Tees with large graphic flowers are also great for 2010. Tank top are not my favor for this print. Tropical inspired floral prints are big on swim wear for this season. Shoes are also donning floral prints. I’m in lust for the pleated t-strap floral print wedge from GoJane.com. They are great examples of floral print shoes gone oh so right!
My Flower Power Picks
- Pleated t-strap floral print wedge from GoJane.com
- Ivette Floral-Print Skirt from Delias.com
- BB Dakota Hadley Romper from Shopbop.com
- Floral Ballet Tunic from Freepeople.com
