Famed designer, Karl Lagerfeld who heads up the Chanel design team, has been bestowed the Legion of Honor medal at a ceremony hosted by the French Government. The medal, which was awarded to him by Nicolas Sarkozy, is made of a pink gold enameled diamond. This was in honor of the charitable deeds he has done for the French. He ranks third in command, or sorts, to designer John Galliano, director David Lynch and singer Barbra Streisand who all received the same honors the previous years. Yves Saint Laurent, another designer, was also awarded the same honors and was given the Grand Officier rank about two years ago.
The Legion of Honor Medal or Légion d’honneur, was established by Napoleon Bonaparte. Those who receive this show excellence in the military or civic service.
