Heading luxury fashion brand, Hermes, women’s wear line, designer Jean-Paul Gaultier has announced last Thursday that he is leaving the fashion house after the unveiling of its Spring and Summer Collection for 2011.
Gaultier has worked with Hermes for seven years. His departure comes after Hermes’ manager Jean-Louis Dumas died. It is known in fashion circles that these two have a good working relationship.
Replacing Gaultier will be Christophe Lemaire who has worked as artistic director for Lacoste. Lemaire will begin working on Hermes’ Fall and Winter collection for 2011.
Jean-Paul Gaultier is critically acclaimed and is heavily credited for reinventing Hermes’ fashion line when he assumed his post back in the early 2000s. He is set to work on his own line following his departure.
