Japanese shoe designer Tetsuya Uenobe describes these as “wearable art”. It’s his call to how fashion is perceived today. A lot of very hip fashionistas, celebrities and models actually make style so much more fun by wearing really unique and distinctive fashion that it’s almost an art piece (see: Lady Gaga). That’s basically the idea of this shoe line. And if it’s really anything —- it’s most definitely distinctive.
These shoes are handmade, so details are properly laid out well. I find it amusing that Tetsuya Uenobe took basically anything and decided this would work with shoes. It’s an ingenious idea at work. The shoes all look fun and quirky, don’t they? And of course, as the designer swears by it, these shoes are completely wearable. This London-educated shoe designer has really something here.
Starting out as a fashion merchandiser, Uenobe became oriented with colors and designs. He was also exposed to a lot of craftsmen and this is basically where he started to learn his way into the shoe business.
He takes inspirations from the fact that his shoe art isn’t limited and I like that this is so. According to him, commercially designed shoes may frustrate him at times.
Uenobe’s creations has been on display at several exhibits in Japan. He is quite well-known among the Japanese, who I must say, have some of the quirkiest fashion sense, these shoes definitely found its market.
His shoe collection is also found at the Virtual Shoe Museum online, where some of the most dazzling creations are presented.
