Trend Alert: Ruffles
This was so evident at last Sunday’s Golden Globes. I’m talking about the explosion of ruffles on many of the designer gowns the celebrities paraded on the red carpet. I’ve blogged awhile back about how one should actually dress up in ruffles and which to avoid…and it seems as though some of the stars also needed to get a clue, as some of them had ruffles needing to be tamed.
Avatar’s Zoe Saldana wore it dark in luscious raspberry color. It’s a great thing she has a very lithe figure. The ruffles would have overwhelmed her and instead of looking sexy, she’d look frumpy. I love the color though. It works so well with her skin tone.
Christina Hendricks of Mad Men was a ruffled goddess that Sunday. Her dress couldn’t hide the fact that she has such a voluptuous body. At least her ruffles weren’t on the top upper half of her body…or that would have been scandalous. But forget about the dress. Her physical self is just so breath-taking. To me, she looks illuminated and I wonder what is up about that?
House’s star Jennifer Morrison’s ruffled dress worked for me for some reason. It does have a lot of layers, from top to bottom. But I think she picked the right shade to at least let the dress blend in and not overshadow her. Good choice.
Every other fashion website has probably dissed her enough so I won’t say anything else about Chloe Sevigny’s dress. At least she went home with the trophy.
