So what has the fashion world got in store for us in Spring 2010 and what are the looks that in a month`s time we simply won`t be able to live without?
Well ladies, whether you love it or hate it, it would appear that the nautical look is here to stay. Though anchors and sailor stripes have been hot for a little while now, their popularity with top designers such as Louis Vuitton and Ralph Lauren shows little sign of waning and they have crept their way into many Spring 2010 collections. If, however, you`re feeling a little tired of your well-worn long sleeved striped t-shirt or dress, how about just brining in a little of the nautical feel with some anchor accessories? The beautiful lapis lazuli anchor earring by Helen Yarmak would hit the spot perfectly.
Designers have also been placing much emphasis on the importance of prints this season and two that are set to become particularly popular are lipstick graphics – such as those offered by Issa and Belle Sauvage – and the so-called `mildew` print – embraced by the likes of Emma Cook, Marni and Jil Sander. Printed trousers in particular are set to be a big trend in Spring 2010 – no longer a basic worn with detailed and embellished tops, trousers are going to become the focus of our outfits. Those with more subtle tastes should go for patterned trousers in muted tones (eg. those by Jason Wu and Elise Øverland), but if you`re feeling brave then the bolder the print and the brighter the colours the better!
Another important trend is the boyfriend blazer. Worn with jeans and a t-shirt for a casual daytime look or over a dress for an edgier evening look, the boyfriend blazer is so versatile that you`ll wonder what you ever did before it. Other looks set to be big in Spring 2010 are knee high socks, ripped denims, see-through fabrics, retro Jackie O elegance, jumpsuits and (deep breath everyone) hot pants. Popular colours in Spring 2010 lights and brights set against a backdrop of classic navys and creams.
As for accessories, as unlikely as it may seem bunny ears will be all the rage in Spring 2010 (something to do with the Easter Bunny perhaps?). There are, however, many more wearable trends out there, for example the slouch handbag. Not only is it big enough to carry everything, the pleating and folding on these new slouch bags adds texture to any outfit. Big jewellery is also set to be popular, particularly statement pieces made of natural materials; keep an eye out for large wooden bangles and huge necklaces crafted from fabric or wood.
More than anything, Spring 2010 is a season for experimentation and an embracing of the idea that `anything goes`. Mixing your favourite Volcom clothing with a vintage charity shop bargain, for example, could produce a look you`ll love to wear all through the Spring. So have fun and get experimenting!
