Let’s face it, no matter how eccentric she looked, 23 year old Stefani Germanotta, otherwise known as Lady Gaga, was this year’s fashion toast. The fashion maverick didn’t hesitate to dare to be different. She would wear clothes made from any type of materials, including the kitchen sink. She would wear odd-looking shoes that would otherwise be a killer on the feet. She made it all work for her and made use of this to her advantage. Everywhere she is, people took notice. It did help that her danceable songs are as eccentric as she is. Everything complemented with her image.
Lady Gaga not only wore the kookiest of clothes, she had help from famous designers for this. Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen were two of those and the relationship worked the other way around, as these designers were also inspired by her odd taste and style.
Admittedly, had Stefani Germanotta veered away from this kind of style, she wouldn’t have lasted in an industry that constantly changes. How she dresses up is part of her success. It is part of the packaging.

Roberto Polet of the Gucci Group has said that China is fast emerging as the largest market for luxury consumer goods. Wealthy Chinese businessmen and their lady partners have given the luxury goods industry a much needed boost, that many high end fashion brands are looking into this market with a lot of consideration. China currently consumes about 1/4 of the total market, with many Chinese travelers making it a point to make their purchases overseas. Many of these traveling shoppers are the newly-affluent Chinese businessmen, their wives and their children. The familiar high end name brands apparently give them a boost in their newly enjoyed social status.
With this latest development, China could overtake USA in the next few years, when it comes to luxury goods purchases.

According to Pantone, a company that supplies fashion decors to many stores, Turquoise is touted as the color for 2010 and insiders of fashion do not disagree with this. Its universal appeal and its tropical fashion flavor makes turquoise very appealing. Whether you are going to actually be in a resort hideaway or not…wearing turquoise does seem to feel that you are always on vacation. The color should also help transcend some positivity, joy, escapism and freshness, which is what many people are looking forward to for next year.
Here are some tips about wearing turquoise for next year’s fashion:
- Although turquoise is very bright, it’s not too loud or too distractive. In the summer seasons, you can wear turquoise with white or blend it with some yellows and greens or oranges. In the colder months, you can wear it with darker colors, such as navy or black, for a year-round wardrobe ensemble.
- At home, you can liven up the place using turquoise paint. Painting one side of the room should brighten it up. Turquoise accessories and room knick knacks when blended with darker wood furniture should pop out and help bring the room alive. Use lamps and tableskirts in shade of turquoise for a luxe looking ambience.
- If you would like to wear turquoise make-up though, make sure to blend this with a darker teal color, as turquoise alone would be too scary.
