It’s an Kafkaesque twist to the life of photographer Guy Bourdin, an exhibit from Paris fashion week is creating a stir of renewed interest over the famous fashion photographer.
“Guy Bourdin Ses Films,” showing through Oct. 29, is a mesmerizing exploration into the visual and intellectual world of the artist, made possible by Samuel Bourdin, who is working to maintain his father’s estate and legacy — despite the photographer’s famous last wish that all his work be destroyed after his death, in 1991.
The exhibit features Bourdin’s work from throughout his career, his work is at times more artistically captured than that of what one may initially expect from fashion shoots. The website can be found here at : GuyBourdin.com for those who aren’t able to actually attend an actual showing.
There are far too few fashion photographers today that try to capture more than merely the clothing. Sadly, they are becoming a true rarity, those who attempt to weave a tale alongside the garments that truly compliments them.
