90’s Aesthetic in Full Swing: The Good, The Bad, The Scary

It’s official: 90’s era garb is in full on ‘in’ mode. Some due to ironic reasons and others due to the (now) adults who were a bit too young the first time around.

With revisits as Hammer Pants, neon, scrunchies, and Clueless-esque clothing and accessories being the trend du jour.  It’s time to polish off your whatevers, and grab that grungy flannel from the back of your closet.

The Good:

Chunky shoes, girly meets grungy layers, and comfort.

During the 90’s I swore by my chunky shoes (and still love them).  The girly meets grungy look is simple to pull off, (pairing a babydoll with a bomber jacket and chunky shoes).

Layered babydoll dresses were the go to look in the 90’s era. Now, I’m sure a few people will take issue with me calling it a good look, but I admittedly have a soft spot in my heart for it to this day (I still wear my Doc Martins).

The Bad:

Nice Hammer Pants.

Right now jumpsuits are  starting to make a bit of a comeback .  While the trend is still in it’s early stages, with some appearances on the catwalk, actually wearing them is an entirely different thing.  It’s a look that is hard to really pull of (and one could imagine leads to a few bathroom emergencies).

Hammer Pants on the other hand (aka Harem pants) are getting a huge boost from the runways.  They can be found in many clothing shops as it is. So their comeback is already in full swing.  One of the few this wished by anyone around during the first appearance of Hammer pants was simply: never again.

The Scary:

Big and bright pants.

While the far too huge pants just went out, it’s now turning over to the 90’s version.  In the decade following the 80’s ultrabright neon colors were huge.  The brighter your pants, the cooler you were.  Now, it’s back (and just as scary as remembered).
