For the people who are into sports, most will remember that there was once a New Balance brand in the market. And while many have shifted their focus on marquee brands like Nike and Reebok, New Balance may yet do a rebound as it launches a new eco-friendly athletic shoe in the New Balance 70.
The upper components in the New Balance 70 contain 75 percent of these – recycled polyester in the laces, webbing and shoe saddle, rice husks filler in the outsole that reduce the amount of rubber (also reducing the amount of petroleum used) and fewer solvents than traditional materials.
The bottom of the shoe is recycled from a previous shoe and the “upper” doesn’t have the support New Balance builds into its other jogging shoes.
New Balance sells 40 million pairs of shoes globally. Gothie said New Balance hopes to learn from this new shoe and apply it to the rest of the company’s line. The New Balance 70 has a suggested price of $80 and is available at nationwide and online at www.newbalance.com.
