Style News Now!

Welcome all my designlookout.com readers, I have some fab news just for you. Today I have exclusive style news just for you! New Fashion Reality Show on Bravo and The story of Coco Chanel comes to life on the silver screen. Don’t you love fashion news! So let get our style fix now! Welcome to designlookout.com!

Bravo has a new fashion show!

We all loved Project Runway. Now that Project Runway is on Lifetime,  it is not surprise that Bravo has another fashion geared show. It is called called Launch My Line! Launch My Line is about 10 established fashion designers paired with 10 industry professionals!  The unique thing about this fashion show is that many of the competitors are not designers!  Yes,  you read correctly. Many of the competitors are Stylists, music producers, event planners, writers, CEOs and choreographers! All types of people competing for their own fashion line!  OMG, I can smell drama! The Host of this hot new show are twin brothers Dean and Dan Caten of DSQUARED2. Love it! I can not wait to see the Twin Moments! DSQUARED2 clients include Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Madonna, Lenny Kravitz, Naomi Campbell, and Rihanna to name a few.

I am so happy about Launch My Line. I was not feeling The Fashion Show! The Fashion Show felt like a cheaper imitation for Project Runway. The concept of the show was great but the designers were not lovable. Many of the designers were rude and brash. I hope that the contestant on the next season of The Fashion Show is better. The host and the judges were great.

So three Cheers for Launch My Line, The Apprentice for the Fashion World! Check out on Bravo’s Launch My Line here !

I can not wait until this film hits the US on September 25th! I can not wait! Check out the trailer here !

Rad Hourani debuts Line

Have you ever looked for the perfect t-shirt and could not find it in stores, that happened to Rad Hourani. Instead of giving up, he designed his own line! Surprise, it was a huge hit! Rad by Rad Hourani launches in November.  Rad is more affordable price point, ranging from $100 to $400. His eponymous label in 2007 is a bit expensive. I love Rad because of the use of coated cotton, rayon, jersey, silk and the use of angles! This line is so futuristic. Check out Rad by Rad Hourani here !

ferragamoms1001

Massimiliano Giornetti, the designer for Salvatore Ferragamo’s menswear collection, is going to take on women’s wear for its Fall/Winter slate this year. The designer will succeed Cristina Ortiz, who, for the last two years, have been the creative genius behind the Italian fashion house’s women’s line.

The company made this pronouncement the other day as Cristina Ortize is slated to present her last collection for Ferragamo at the Milan catwalk this coming September. The designer, who hails from Canary Island, has been working under the label for the last two years and is credited for its classy and classic designs. She has helped shaped its profile in high fashion or haute couture, which used to be only known for its scarves and shoe collection.

Ferragamo is a family owned fashion enterprise based in Florence, Italy.

What’s In a Watch?

85919_0Watches are classified as accessories but it seems that many people feel naked without one. They are means of telling the time but apparently the style of watches differ. For men, one would think that they would not care on what type of watch they are using. Some turn to branded ones while others would go for the what best suits them and their attire.

Safely, some men would prefer mens watches that could easily blend with the wardrobe of anyone. This could be a watch meant for businessmen or even for casual wear. Regardless, men can often turn to the usual larger make watches which some believe tells a lot on whether such a watch is really genuine or a fake.

Mens watches come in different brands and styles. Thye often come in metal-based straps while others would still carry the usual leather-based ones. But look a bit closer to date and you will see that most watches in demand are the ones with the aluminum or gold plated finish. Other than looking elegant, they are the fashion trend today for watch complement for people anywhere in the world.

But does a man really need a watch to look good? It all depends. Normally, people have begun wearing wristwatches as early as their childhood. The normal start would be that of leather-strapped watches which eventually lead towards the usual metallic bracelet mens watches we see rampant in the market. In fact you may tie this up as being the watch that will practically grow with you.

There are also some who go for the complicated designs of the face of the watch. Some can go well without the usual number guides while others make use of Arabic. There are even some watches that have dots or some insignia mainly because people are expected to be aware of the numbers that go in a clock.

Watches are not round all the time. Some take a square shape while others oval. Depending on which one they feel tells more about their personality, shape, size, color and brand make up the watch that a person would have but should be importantly flexible and complimentary to any attire a person wishes to don.

Michael Jackson’s Clothing Line

michaeljacksonandchristianaudigier

Before his untimely death, the King of Pop was apparently planning on launching his own clothing line. This is according to designer Christian Audigier, who recently told BANG Magazine that the two were actually working on a collaboration.

Christian Audigier is the designer for the Von Dutch label and is credited for his Ed Hardy collection. I can actually see Michael Jackson’s style fitting into the brand’s market.

Says the designer: “I was working on merchandising with him and launching a new line of clothes, which was actually Michael’s dream. A month-and-a-half ago I had a dinner at his house and he was in perfect shape and was really happy and excited to be coming to London and what has happened since then has been very sad. It was based on various types of merchandising on different products, also accessories. What he wanted from me was the T-shirts and the hoodies and the caps. And it was very kind of royalist – kind of a mix of the real Michael Jackson and his alter-ego as the King of Pop.”

Audigier was also supposedly closely working with the pop superstar’s costumes for what would have been his “This Is It” concert this July.

There are reports though that even with Michael gone, the planned clothing line will push forward, with Audigier heading the mix.

Michael Jackson was such an iconic superstar who not only got attention for his talent but also for his uncanny style sense.

Can you imagine what the clothing line would look like? Designer Christophe Decarnin for the Balmain fashion house paid tribute to the King recently with this creation below…and it does not look bad at all:

Forever21 Launches Cirque21

screen-capture-18

Fashion retail store, Forever 21, is launching a new line which will be available beginning this Wednesday. Cirque 21, a fashion collection with a twist, is inspired by…what else, but the circus.

The collection includes a lot of stripes, tulle and poufy dresses meant to entice fashionistas of GenerationY. The collection is a limited release, perhaps a way of testing the waters which is probably a good idea since, based on feedback from other fashion sites — while the collection looks really promising, the style isn’t really for everyone. It really is fashion with a twist!

Check the clothes out at Forever 21’s lookbook.

Are you impressed by it? There are some really quirky collections in this set, fitting certain personalities only. But they do look cute, I should say.

Jolin Tsai is like the biggest Taiwanese pop star today. She’s like the Britney Spears in her country. Last week, the performer was at the San Francisco Centre to promote her clothing line, Seventy Two Changes, which is already available at Nordstrom.

Seventy Two Changes features a collection of casual clothes with a hint of menswear feel to it. The choices are quite eclectic but it includes lots of loose tops, menswear shirt for the female body, boyfriend blazers and leggings.

The collection takes inspiration from modern street wear clothes, contemporary jazz and pop star influences. The collection is attached to L.A.M.B.’s sophisticated branding and thus, easily blends with its style and fashion. It will be launching to more stores across the US and Canada in the fall season.

Fashion Magazines: In or Out?

bazaar

When September rolls in, fashion magazines usually come out with one of their best issues and are particularly thicker with many ad-rich contents. Not so much in this case, this year as WWD reports upcoming September issues will be thinner, with less than half their usual ad pages.

What is happening? Are printed fashion magazines on its way out?

According to David Lipman of the Lipman ad agency, there has been a significant drop in magazine ad sales because “marketers are panicked right now”.  You can blame it on global economic woes. Luxury advertisements just don’t seem to appeal to most people right now.  Media analyst say this could last until middle of next year. And what would that mean for  the fashion magazine business? It could mean business will be harder in the next couple of months, with the last quarter of 2009, most challenging for the industry.

Still, insiders expected this. Low retail sales of luxury goods and even items at retail stores like Costco, seemed to be a good indicator.

Many fashion brands have also turned to a cheaper, flexible, easily quantifiable and more effective means — online advertising. According to the report, while print ads are down, internet ad investments have increased to as much as 10% this year.

Says David Lipman:  “There’s no doubt that there are zillions of eyeballs online. If you think you don’t need traditional media, you’re going to fail. But you also need how to get to consumers through social media, networking, blogging, tweeting.”
