Lawsuit drama for Michael Kors

20090127_mrkors_250x375

Poor Michael Kors, he is getting sued! Yes, Kors is involved in a trademark-infringement suit. The Tony Duquette estate is suing Michael Kors due to used the Duquette name. You see Kors used the Duquett for his resort collection. Well if you do not know Tony Duquett, here is a brief history lesson.

Tony Duquett was an acclaimed artist and designer. Mr. Duquett designed for Hollywood great like Gloria Swanson, Greta Garbo, Fred Astaire, Vincent Minnelli,  Marion Davies, and many more. Tony Duquett’s designs for the original Broadway production of “Camelot” won a Tony Award for “Best Costume”. Duquett also designed furniture for many stars. So Duquett had a huge impact on the fashion and interior design community. So there is you fashion history lesson for today. You learn something new everyday.

OK, back to the drama! Michael Kors use of the Duquett name to market his resort collection was big no no. Especially when Kors did not ask for permission.  I personally think that Kors collection was an ode to the great designer Duquett. Do I think that the Duquett estate will understand-No!  Mr. Kors will probably have to get his lawyers out. The case will go to court, and drama will ensue. I wonder how this case will be like. Will this drama affect Michael Kors on Project Runway? Will the case end up on Court TV or Style Network? Just kidding. On a serious note not, I hope that this case can be resolved peacefully. I think that bringing the Duquett name back into the public eye was great for both parties. Many are not aware of Duquett and his influence on the fashion. I hope that this lawsuit will blow over.  Good luck Michael Kors!

Sag awards- Fab or Bad

Hello all my designlookout readers, I have a fashion treat for you. Awards season is the best time for fashion and trends. Everyone wants a RED Carpet Dress! Whether for prom or for a wedding.  The Red carpet is the biggest runway for all fashion designers. You get first look at what is in and what is totally out. Today, I am going to show all of the fab and bad fashion at the SAG awards. Some stars look absolutely fabulous while others look just plain bad! So get those fashion guides ready and take notes.

normalize_jpeg

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are usually fashion icon today but this was not one of those days. This Hollywood couple is looking a bit old and boring. I was very disappoint. I was also upset because this blue Max Azria gown was worn backwards. The dress was suppose to have a plunging neckline! I am not into this “look”that Angelina has been sporting. Angelina needs something new beside the goddess look! I will say that her makeup is refreshing and natural. As for Brad, I can not stand his mustache. I love Brad but this mustache is driving me crazy. This was just bad!

normalize_jpeg-1

Kate Winslet looks divine in this electric blue Narciso Rodriguez gown. This dress show the beauty of a woman’s curves! This electric blue lighten the red runway! I also loved her earring by Chopard. I can not say she was the best dress at the sag but she looked fab!

normalize_jpeg-2

Evan Rachel Wood looked fab in her ark teal Monique Lhuillier with purple bag and shoes. This was a refreshing look for Evan since her departure from Marilyn Manson. This look is glam all the way. I love this look best of all.

normalize_jpeg-3

Tina Fey was wearing a Brian Reyes cocktail dress. I was not feeling this ensemble at all. I feel that this dress was not very formal especially for The Sag Awards.  I will give it to Tina, she looks very comfortable. I like the jewelry and Tina’s makeup was flawless. Sorry Tine Fey but this was bad with nice accessories!

normalize_jpeg-4

Rosario Dawson look great in this dress until you eyes hit the floor. The gown was great but was too long for Rosario’s frame. Though many sites are saying that this dress was a fashion disaster, but it was not. The dress needed to be hemmed. That is all! So, Rosario was Fab with a bad seamtress!

Did you love what Michelle Obama wore to the Inaugural Ball

    090120-michelle-vmed-740pwidec

I will have to say that I was a bit disappoint with Michelle Obama’s choice. I was look forward to a gown with some color. Red or Gold would have been a better choice for Michelle. The style of the dress was wonderful. The one shoulder dress emphasis the tone upper body physique of Michelle. I would have loved a more fitted bodice to accent her figure. I love that Michelle took a risk unlike many First Ladies in recent years.  The use of an unknown designer was also great. The designer of this dress was Jason Wu. We need to know about different styles and designers. If everyone wore Oscar De La Renta or Carolina Herrera, we would very bored. Do not get me wrong, I love Oscar de La Renta and Carolina Herrera, but people need something new.

I do think that this dress was a disaster like other sites are proclaiming. Risk is a great thing in the fashion industry. If no one takes a fashion risk than fashion will become stale.  So do not be discourage Ms. Obama, you took a fashion risk and it worked. I also love the jewelry. The lovely diamond chandelier earrings and bracelets are made by Loree Rodkin. The bracelet/earrings were elegant and simply.

    ball-lhuillier21

I would have love you to wear the Monique Lhuillier sketch for Michelle Obama. This dress has a define bodice and great flow. The color is great too. I know that Jill Biden had wonderful  gown. This dress was by  a Lebanese designer Reem Acra. I loved this gown, though it was safe. Jill Biden looked chic. I would have loved Jill Biden to wear a necklace and a bracelet.

The quilted pants scandal at Milan’s Fashion week!

Giorgio Armani is not very happy with Dolce and Gabbana. In fact, Amarmi is furios!  According to Armani, D&G ,Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana,  stole one of his design. What did D&G steal? They stole Armani’s quilted pants! That is not all!  Armani had  pictures to prove it. Yes, pictures! Armani provided Italian fashion journalists with photographs of a pair of quilted trousers shown in an Emporio Armani collection a year ago. Now D&G used the now Infamous quilted pants at Fashion Week on Saturday. How many times were these pants seen on D&G’s runway. The pants were sent down the runway 16 times.

The drama does not end there.  Armani made a hostile remake “Now they copy me, tomorrow they will learn.” Is  Giorgio Armani hinting at a potential lawsuit. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are not frighten.  Dolce & Gabbana respond harshly by saying: “For sure we have much to learn – but certainly not from him.” That was cold as ice D&G! The fun does not end there, D&G said that ” Armani has never been a source of inspiration for us and we stopped seeing his shows years ago”! Ouch!

The pants are very similar. Each are inspired by Chinese peasant work attire. There is a difference in the pants. D&G’s  padded silk pants seemed fuller while Armani’s pants are a bit flat. I personally like these pants but I do not know if they will be huge in the U.S.  D&G are fashion giants, they should acknowledge that they got the idea from Armani. I mean it is obvious. I doubt that D&G will.  So, do not be surprise if you see a lawsuit in the news.

What will Michelle Obama Wear to the Inauguration?

As the Presidential Inauguration nears, many people are wondering- what will the First Lady wear? Well there are many designers that Ms. Obama can choose from. Everyone from Isaac Mizrahi to Christian Lacroix is being eyed for the Inauguration gown. This is the one of the biggest fashion moments in history. Yes, you read correctly-history. The Inauguration gown will be in the” First Ladies at the Smithsonian” exhibit at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

I cannot wait to the first lady’s fashion choice. Many fashion experts are screaming for an American designer (probably designer Maria Pinto.) Others think the gown will be an off the rack! Can you imagine a off the rack gown! I have a feeling that The first Lady will have Narciso Rodriguez design for her. So today I am going to post a few designs that I believe are great, and a few that are not so great.  Get ready for some political fashions.

    ball-lhuillier2I

I absolutely love this gown. It is by Monique Lhuillier. asymmetrical dresses are huge this year. Ms. Obama’s tone arms and great figure. I believe that this dress would be divine.I also love the color. This ruby gown would blow the lid off the Inaugural Ball.

    ball-bestsey

I love Betsey Johnson but I am not a huge fan of this dress. This dress is more like a costume than a gown. The shape of the dress is great but the colors are a bit much. I like that this dress is fun and outrageous. Only Betsey Johnson can design something like this.Xoxo Betsey

    ball-mk

Michael Kors did an extraordinary job on this gown. I am a huge fan of Michael Kors. In my opinion, he is one of the best American designer today. The simplicity of this evening gown is a example of classic American beauty. The simple sleek silhouette of this dress is glamorous- all the way!

    ball-oscar1

This gown is great, though it does not seem as a eye-catcher. The details are wonderful. I also love the designs for the children. i would love to see this gown at the Ball. I bet that Oscar would too. I love that this fashion illustration because the depiction is realistic to the First Family.

    ball-koi

This is not my favorite design but I enjoy that high fashion aspect. I do not see Michelle Obama wearing this but I can see it going down the runway. Koi Suwannagate is a wonderful designer but I do not think this a look is sensible for the first lady. I will say that the structure of the dress is very flattering to Michelle’s frame.

    ball-lacroix

I love this dress. Though I am not a fan of the red cape, but  I do love the dress! The strapless dress with lovely lines and a charming flow. I could see the first lady coming down a grand staircase in this gown. I like it but this dress is not my number one choice, especially with the Flag pocketbook.

Well all my designlookout.com readers, what do you think The New First Lady should wear?

    0915_alexander-wang-spring-09_li080m1

This trend reflects the Depression era of the 1920’s. I think this trend is great especially in the poor economic times. The silver flapper dress by Alberta Ferretti is absolutely gorgeous. If you have the shape to pull this off by all means do it. I have a feeling that the 80’s and the 20’s with have a huge influence on fashion this year. So don’t be surprise that if you see short sleek hair and oversized necklaces. Also do not be surprise if you see a touch of  neon colors. Magenta is deemed the color of 2009 by the Fashion gurus.

    108m

Great sports apparel is essential for 2009. This does not mean that you can wear an awful pair of sweatpants and think that you are “in”. Sports attire should be clean, well fitted, and appealing. I believe that you will feel good when you look good. So if you are trying to get healthy or maintaining your beautiful body, than this trend is crucial.

    Andy & Debb Spring-Summer 2009 NY 09/06/08

Geometric shapes are huge this year.  Andy & Debb outfit above is a grand example of shapes in style. You will see shapes in every aspect of fashion this year. Whether it is large patterns or sharp angles, shapes are big. Also keep your eyes out for asymmetrical dresses. Purses will also reflect this trend too. Check out ebay.com for great deals on everything from shoes to hats.

    The Golden Globes

Hello all my designlookout.com readers, Today I am going to talk about the ultra fab looks of the Golden globes. I know that I am a bit late on the Fashion for the globes but some much is going on these days. The Oscars are around the corner, the president inauguration (and Michelle’s fashion choice) is last than a week again, and Rio de Janeiro is having fashion week. It is a busy week. So pardon my lateness and enjoy my fashion choices.

    1.    “Desperate Housewives” star Eva Longoria shows off her hourglass figure in this crimson Reem Acra gown coupled with a chignon. A chignon is a popular type of bun style. A+ for Eva with this form fitting choice.

    The Beverly Hilton Hotel

    2.    Melissa George looked sleek and stylish in this Armani gown. Many fashion gurus do not agree with me but I though it add a dash of uniqueness with the vinyl bodice. I love this retro approach to eveningwear.

    80813980TM156_The_66th_Annu

    3.    Kate Winslet, winner for best actress in Revolutionary Road, look magnificent in this strapless ebony Yves Saint Laurent dress. This ode to Old Hollywood was music to my ears.

    80813980TM199_The_66th_Annu

    4.    Bravo Maggie Gyllenhaal for this fashion risk. Is defiantly was not a miss. The blue leopard print Lavin asymmetrical dress was pure genius. Two thumbs up for Maggie Gyllenhaal.

    80813980BM110_The_66th_Annu

    5.    Taraji P. Henson, a star in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Henson played the role of Queenie, Benjamin’s mother in the movie. Many are hearing Oscar buzz for her role in the movie. I hope Taraji will win. Ms. Henson wore a gorgeous J. Mendel pattern dress.

    Ferruccio Pozzoni leaves valentino

    FRANCE FASHION

(Photo courtesy AP Photo by Jacques Brinon)

According to Reuters.com, Ferruccio Pozzoni departs from Valentino! Yes, you read right, Ferruccio Pozzoni is no longer with Valentino. Ferruccio was the designer for the men’s collection.

If you do not know who Ferruccio Pozzoni is, here is some information just for you. In 1998 to 2004, Ferruccio designed for the Prada Group, first for the Prada men’s collections, then going on to develop the Miu Miu collection. I love that collection!  In 2005, Ferruccio started at Brioni. Brioni is know for their world renowned up-scale men’s tailoring. Ferruccio was known as a marvelous tailor. He later became the creative director for Brioni. Finally Ferruccio began collaborating with Valentino in September 2007 with the Fall/Winter 2008/09 collection.

This is huge news because fashion week in Milan is right around the corner. Pozzoni will complete his role as the Menswear designer for Valentino’s Fall/Winter 2009/2010 collection on January 17. After this show, you will never see Pozzoni in the house of Valentino again. Something big had to happen for Valentino to dismiss Ferruccio. The explanation of Ferruccio Pozzoni dismissal was a bit weak.

Ferruccio’s news worthy dismissal announcement came after the departure of Alessandra Facchinetti. Alessandra Facchinetti was deemed the successor of Valentino until her dismissal in October.

Valentino named Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli as creative directors for all product categories in October. There is a lot of drama in the Valentino House lately.
