Trend Alert: Visible Bra and Bra Straps

Summer Apparel from Soft Surroundings

Perhaps because women are usually more adventurous when it comes to summer wear that we now see a deluge of celebrities and models or even average common people showing off their lacy bra on top of a sheer blouse or shirt. This look has actually been in and out of the trends over the years but these days, you can see it coming back.

Pop sensation Rihanna has recently been out wearing a neon orange bra visible under a white shirt and we have to say, she pulled it off.

If you’re not brave enough to show your lacy push-ups though, a visible bra strap is your option. Check out style icon Gwen Stefani below, in this file photo. She is looking really fabulous in this very relaxed, very casual outfit.

Here’s another  one with pop Princess, Britney Spears, wearing a white tank top with her visible bra strap underneath.

We have to say that in this photo, Brit-Brit, (who sometimes get photographed without a bra, imagine that!) was really rockin’ the look.

While visible bra and bra straps look cute this season, there seems to be a right way to do it . This kind of style has a thin red line between a fashion hit or a miss, a little distinction between slutty and sexy (and Britney is one of those celebrities that blurs the line sometimes!).

It may look good on some people, alright. But for most people…you think it’s best to just wear things conventionally and keep their bra hidden under their shirt?

Pop and legendary singer Madonna has been an image model for famous brand Louis Vuitton for awhile now. But the company’s PR machine is again releasing a new batch of photos with the Material Girl who definitely knows how to strike a fabulous pose.

This photo above is from the campaign’s latest, for its Fall of 2009

The Queen of Pop is striking a pose for luxury brand Louis Vuitton once again in a series of ethereal advertisements for Louis Vuitton’s Fall 2009 campaign.

The singer and fashion icon worked along side Marc Jacobs and photographer Steven Meisel to produce these lovely images which will soon grace magazine pages, billboards and print ads.

Although the photos seemed to have undergone some heavy photo processing and color correction, Madonna’s powerful presence still seeps through the images wonderfully.

Will fashion industry insiders appreciate Bruno or will they be put off by this? “Bruno” is a follow up movie starring Sacha Baron Cohen, who, three years ago, made such a killing at the box office with “Borat” the clueless journalist. This time, Cohen plays Bruno, who plays a flamboyant and very gay fashionista of Austrian descent.

Austria’s very own fashion designer Lena Hoschek says that she looks forward to this movie more than anything and believes that the movie should be one fun film, even if it pokes fun into the industry where she belongs.

Marcel Ostertag, however, is still mum about what to expect saying that the movie may possibly show what fashion world is not like.

The film Bruno opens in theaters July the 10th. Are you fashionistas out there excited, too?

gi_0_cosmojuly09suziroher5015Toronto-based fashion belt designer Suzi Roher’s fashion belts (style #5015) is featured in the July issue of Cosmopolitan Magazine. This is the second consecutive month that Cosmopolitan has featured Suzi Roher’s unique fashion belts in a high fashion pictorial.

The pictorial, “I’m Your Venus,” features a a sleek and sexy brunette model posing among the exhibits Rose Center for Earth and Space in New York City. Photographer Marc Baptiste makes Suzi Roher’s black contoured cinch belt as the focal point of the outfit which includes pieces from Vera Wang and Ted Rossi.

Originally debuted during an episode of ABC’s hit comedy “Ugly Betty,” style 5015 is narrower in the back and wider in the front. It is made of luscious black leather and has a matte black turn-key buckle. The belt has a slimming effect on the silhouette. The ensemble was labeled as that of a “High-Tech Hottie” that can make the lower half look “phantom sleek.”

“Style 5015 has an innovative cosmic and futuristic presence that enhances a beautiful part of the female physique,” explains Suzi Roher. “It is a transitional accessory that is both dressy for business and comfortable for pleasure.”

Suzi Roher creates her eclectic, custom, handmade belts in the belief that women appreciate an element of fantasy. Some styles in her collection include belts with elastic under the hardware creating versatility and adjustability, that do not sacrifice comfort for style.

Today, Suzi Roher’s handmade belts may be found at prestigious merchants throughout the United States, Canada, UK and Europe. Determined to maintain the most rigorous quality control, Roher personally oversees the manufacture of her designs from her own factory in Toronto.

The BET Awards 2009 was hosted by actor, singer, performer Jamie Foxx and featured performances by the Kanye West, Beyonce, Queen Latifah, Soulja Boy, Keri Hilson, Mary Mary, Ne-Yo, Maxwell, Fabolous, T-Pain, Keyshia Cole, Monica, Young Jeezy, Trey Songz and Tyrese and appearances by The O’Jays, Alicia Keys, Wyclef Jean, Tyra Banks, Taraji P. Henson.

The show also featured a tribute to the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, and her youngest sister, Janet, spoke in behalf of the entire family, thanking them for honoring his legendary brother.

But something else we looked forward to at the BET was the parade of celebrities at the red carpet. And here are some photos of the fashion hits and misses  that went on last Sunday:

beyonce3-062909-lgn

Beyonce was a sight to behold in a floral mini-dress and purple strap heels. The sexy singer showed off her killer thighs and legs.

alicia-keys-062909-lgn

Also wearing a mini-dress was Alicia Keys, who looked her best and capped it off with a strappy sandals.
tyra-banks-062909-lgn

Tyra Banks walked the red carpet in a blouse and vest, plus tight satin pants and pumps. It was a fabulous men’s style that the former model and now host  pulled off. Although we aren’t too thrilled about it.

shaun-robinson-062909-lgn

Shaun Robinson also went for the mini-dress wearing a gold-trimmed one matched by metallic stilettos pumps and metallic clutch bag. She looked really ravishing.

ciara-062909-lgn

Singer Ciara’s leather dress didn’t complement her figure and it looks like she picked the wrong shoes to go with it. Or the wrong dress to go with the shoes.

Last Sunday’s unveiling of Paul Smith’s Spring and Summer 2010 Collection also featured an homage to the King Of Pop, Michael Jackson. During the final lap, models ramped on the runaway to one of the songs by the legendary singer (who passed away June 26). The models did their final lap to the tune of “Thriller”.

British designer Paul Smith, who was the designer for Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin when he was just an up and coming designer, said last Sunday’s show was actually a salute to the musicians of yesterday and the rockers of today.  And the finale walk chosen was just so fitting to the mood and occasion.

Many of Paul Smith’s design in this latest collection feature styles that these rockers wear. For instance the mica-colored jackets with wide lapels were similar to what the designer has done for David Bowie or the British indie band, Frank Ferdinand.

Interesting styles also featured blazers and lettermen jackets, with an updated twist, such as the use of silk fabric.

This latest collection feature an apparent lack of color as Paul Smith, known for his usually vibrant colors , decided to go with monochromatic hues, with a hint of purple and orange.

He told reporters, via AP: “I was mixing (looks from) today and from the beginning of my career.”

In the finale walk, as Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” blasted in the background, the models wore very orange pants, suede loafers and shimmering mauve or pink tops in honor of the late King of Pop.

Celebrating Michael Jackson’s Fashion and Style

Perhaps as big as his music, Michael Jackson will also best be remembered for his eccentric fashion sense. The clothes that he wore all throughout his remarkable career as a pop icon, have become his signature statement.

It all started with the white glove. And then as his career flourished so did his taste in clothes. Whether he was wearing sequined and bedazzled military get-ups, or just a plain white shirt tucked into above ankle-length black pants, his tastes in clothes made quite an impact.

Michael Jackson was dressed by L.A.-based costume designers such as Michael Bush, Dennis Tompkins and Deborah Landis when he is out performing or doing his videos. But he also had preference for Balmain, Givenchy and Louis Vuitton. It was in fact, Louis Vuitton who embellished his very popular white glove.

There’s no one quite like Michael Jackson, indeed.

Fashion Flashback: Farrah Fawcett’s Hair

farrah

In the world of fashion and beauty, the one thing people will always remember about actress Farrah Fawcett, who succumb to cancer in the morning of June 25th, is her magnificent crown of hair. The feathery hairstyle was the in thing for anything pretty and beautiful with hair back in the mid to late 70’s. The style featured naturally soft, shiny waves curling to the side and cupping the face. When women flipped it, men would go crazy.

After the attack of the spray nets and beehive bangs in the 80’s, the no-shampoo grungy look of the 90;s, the Farrah hairstyle is back in rave again, this time with more refined and softer layers.  Stars like  Charlize Theron, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria sported the Farrah…which only proves that this looks will never grow old.

Here is a video on how to achieve the hairstyle —
